I wanted to share these awesome cookies with you (even though they have nothing to do with anything we've been blogging about, except that they are seasonal and delicious). We call them "adult cookies" because, as you can see below, I imprint them with pornographic images from my custom-made Kama Sutra rolling pin.
Just kidding. We call them "adult cookies" because
1) we can't pronounce their name
and
2) they have a little more character than most cookies, so we think they might be an acquired taste for kids (we will test that theory next year when our baby eats food that doesn't come from a breast)
I got the recipe from food52, a website that I used to be addicted to, but stopped reading due to the lack of new content after the first two years. The first time that I made them, I didn't have one of those fancy rolling pins, and I had fun pressing all kinds of random shapes into the cookies (like leaves, my wedding ring, etc.). But I got one of the rolling pins, and now it's really fun to see the shapes appear (even though they are decidedly not x-rated).
Also, I used orange peel instead of lemon peel, and I (chronic under-baker that I am) like to make them a little thicker so that they are still soft after 20 mins in the oven (I find that if I triple the recipe, it will cover two baking stones, which makes a nice amount of cookies to give away and keep for yourself (but not your husband! -- because...you know why...).
